When re-reading text to repair a misplaced emphasis or other screw-up, it is hard to duplicate the tempo, pitch, etc. of the earlier reading. To spare the listener, leave a space of 1/3 to 1/2 of a second between the mismatched readings. The mind accepts the transition without noting a discontinuity.
